What's Happening Around Town?

STORMWATER PROJECT:

The Mayor and Board of Commissioners have worked extremely hard to secure grant funding for the stormwater project, which is now getting started. The equipment and materials are being staged on the empty lot beside the Police Department.

The Town’s stormwater project is designed to improve drainage and reduce flooding in areas that experience standing water during heavy rain.

This project will upgrade drainage infrastructure to help move stormwater through town more efficiently.

By improving how rainwater flows, the project will help reduce flooding in streets and yards, protect homes and property, and better prepare the town for future growth and stronger storms.

4/1/26 Update:

Work has begun on East North Railroad Street as part of the ongoing improvement project. To help minimize disruption to residents and reduce impacts on school traffic, contractors will be working near the post office on Tuesday night, April 7th. This scheduling allows critical work to be completed during a time of lower traffic and activity in the area.

Following the work on Tuesday night, water service will be temporarily shut off while necessary connections are completed. We encourage residents to plan accordingly.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to make improvements to our community.

PUMP STATION UPGRADES:

The Town is upgrading two wastewater pump stations to improve reliability and keep our sewer system running efficiently. These upgrades will replace aging equipment and add modern monitoring technology. The improvements will help prevent service interruptions, protect the environment, and support the Town’s continued growth. This is a grant-funded project as well, and will begin soon.

These upgrades will be at the Northside Pump Station, which is off of Maple Ave. Extension and Southside Pump Station on South Main Street.

4/1/26 Update:

  • Work has begun at the North Side Pump Station
  • The 8” force main work from the pump station has begun; about 150 linear feet has been installed going up Maple Avenue. Force main installation along Maple and Blackmon St will continue through the end of July.
  • Abandonment and work to begin on the existing North Side PS in the May/June period.
  • Terraflex is currently on schedule.
  • Contractor work by Terraflex may be minimal this week due to an emergency repair work for another municipality; scheduled to be back on the project the week of 4/6/26.
